The Panther
Hockey Journey
From a child's first skate to elite AAA competition — SHAHA offers Pittsburgh's most complete youth hockey development pathway, right here in the South Hills.
Where Pittsburgh Kids Learn to Love Hockey
At SHAHA, we believe every child deserves a clear, supported path to reach their potential on the ice. Whether your player is stepping on the rink for the first time or competing at the AAA level, the Panther Hockey Journey is built to develop the whole player — skills, confidence, teamwork, and character.
Every Step of the Journey
SHAHA offers a seamless progression from a child's very first skate all the way to elite Tier I AAA competition. Each stage builds on the last — your player is always challenged, always growing, and always having fun.
Every hockey story begins with a first glide. The Spencer Family YMCA's Learn to Skate program gives preschool-age children the confidence and balance to thrive on the ice. Helmets and gloves required. Sessions year-round at 305 Church Rd, Bethel Park.
A collaboration between SHAHA, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and USA Hockey. Kids pick up a stick for the first time and fall in love with the game. Every participant receives a full starter gear package included in registration.
The first green Panthers jersey. The first team. The first goal. Built around USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) with cross-ice and half-ice play for maximum puck touches and pure joy. This is where lifelong friendships begin.
Players transition to full-ice play and develop positional awareness, skating power, and team systems. Two practices per week plus games build chemistry and competitive instincts. 10U is where hockey players truly begin to emerge.
Advanced puck control, team systems, and game strategy take center stage. Players develop hockey IQ and begin understanding the chess match that elite hockey demands. Competition intensifies and team identity deepens.
Physical play, stronger team systems, and competitive leagues push players to a new level. Body contact introduced in co-ed play. This is a critical development window — the gap between motivated players widens here.
Elite players compete at Tier I AAA — SHAHA's flagship 16U program — while others develop at AA and A. High school players begin defining their hockey futures. Scouts, showcases, and junior hockey opportunities enter the picture.
The pinnacle of SHAHA's program. The 18U AAA Tier I team competes at the highest level of amateur youth hockey, offering showcase-level exposure for players with junior, college, and beyond aspirations. 19U Girls provides the same elite environment.
