Mite positions at SHAHA still available

By Justin Sullivan 07/03/2019, 6:30pm EDT

We have a few remaining spots available for our Mite program. Any child with a 2011 birth year or younger can play Mite hockey, and who has participated in any of the following:

  • Little Pens Learn to Play Hockey
  • a hockey developmental program
  • has taken skating lessons

Here are just a few reasons to play Hockey:

More than a Game
Hockey develops skills on the ice that build a foundation for a lifetime. In addition to athletic prowess, hockey promotes confidence, pride, focus and responsibility. With an emphasis on fun, hockey is a game to be played and enjoyed for life.

Life-long Friendships
Starting with the bonds created in the locker room to the relationships formed on ice, hockey creates life-long friendships. This camaraderie shared on and off the ice encourages teamwork and the natural development of leadership skills.

Set Up for Success
From learning to balance school, responsibilities at home, time at the rink and playing with friends, hockey encourages kids to learn time management skills that will later serve them in all facets of life. Hockey’s unique source of physical fitness promotes healthy living.

Hockey is Fun
The thrill of carrying the puck up the ice on a breakaway, the exhilaration of scoring your first goal or making that amazing save is possible due to the encouraging environment hockey provides to try new things and grow as a hockey player and person.

SHAHA is one of the area’s largest and most respected amateur hockey associations.  It has a lot to offer youth players, including:

  • Professional skating and skills instructors who will work with your players throughout the year.
  • Two fixed practice/game times per week.
  • Players pull from neighboring school districts including: Bethel Park, Upper St Clair, Mt Lebanon, Peters, South Park, Baldwin and others.
  • Weekly games from November through February played against other Pittsburgh area teams.
  • Team placement of your player will be in the Fall, so players have a chance to develop over the summer. This ensures they will be placed in their appropriate skill level team.
  • SHAHA follows the USA hockey American Development model. As part of the American Development Model, USA Hockey recommends younger players limit their ice time while maximizing fun and developing their overall athletic skills.

Please visit the www.shaha.org  or click on the attached link to register your player. If you have any questions please email or call Justin Sullivan, ADM director at  (412)-607-7999 Developmental@shaha.org

Tryouts for 2019-20 season

By Michael Safko 04/04/2019, 10:45am EDT

Tryout schedule is set

SHAHA is pleased to announce the tryout schedule for the 2019-2020 season. The schedule is shown below.  If your son or daughter is registered for Midget AA (U16/U18), Midget A/B (U16) or Girls, please plan to attend the first session for your group as noted on the schedule. All other players will be contacted via email with their reporting time.

All athletes attending a AAA/AA tryout will be thoroughly evaluated in the first session; participation in subsequent sessions is by invitation only. Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam players that are deferred or are not offered a AAA/AA spot are automatically enrolled in the subsequent alphabetic sessions for their age group.

A special note for Bantam 05 & 06 birth year players:  SHAHA is holding a combined tryout for all team units except the 06 AAA team. Those trying out for AAA and are not selected will be automatically added to the Bantam AA-A-B tryouts. SHAHA will recommend division placement to PAHL based upon each team’s skill assessment, which could be AA Major, AA Minor, A or B.  Except for those trying out for AAA, select the Bantam 2005/2006 & A/B ($325) when prompted during registration.

As a reminder, mite placements will be held in the summer.

For more information or to register please, navigate to https://www.shaha.org/ or send an email to tryouts@shaha.org.

Thank you,

SHAHA Tryout Committee
