Pink Panthers Winter Registration Open

By Ron Michalak 10/15/2018, 9:45am EDT

Registration is now open for our Winter Pink Panther session.

While Mites and programs such as Little Penguins provide an avenue for the youngest hockey fans to begin playing the sport, the Pink Panthers program is targeted toward female players between the ages of 6 and 15 who want to give hockey a try. Pink Panthers will meet every other Sunday evening at 7pm from December 23rd  through March 10th at the South Hills YMCA in Bethel Park. The fee for the program is $125.

SHAHA is a leader in promoting women's hockey in Western Pennsylvania, offering a U12 girls team for the 2018-2019 season. If you have friends or family with a daughter who fits this criteria, have them register and give it a try! Full equipment is required, as is USA Hockey registration. Email girls@shaha.org for more information.

If you have any other questions, please contact Ryan Beaver, Director of Girls Hockey at girls@shaha.org

Duquesne Concussion Research Study

By Ron Michalak 10/02/2018, 10:00am EDT

SHAHA's guiding principles has always been about making it fun for all of the kids while also developing them at the sport of hockey as well.  In addition to this, we also put the safety of our players first and foremost as well, and we are happy to bring an offer to you next week.

SHAHA has partnered with Duquesne University as they are conducting a research study to investigate the relationships of both parents and children on the knowledge, behaviors and tendencies related to sports-related concussions.

Assistant Professor Erica Beidler from the Department of Athletic Training and her students/staff will be on hand at the rink next week to talk with parents and players about this study.  The schedule is attached below, and we encourage you to read the attached flyer ahead of time to come with any questions that you may have, or to come as a willing participant.  If you do not have a practice during the slots listed below, still feel free to stop by and participate!

In addition to this study, Erica was on hand this past weekend to educate our coaches on identifying concussion symptoms and to help increase their education on the subject.  Also, we will continue to add more educational materials to our website to help all of our families become educated partners.

If you have any other questions, Erica's contact information is listed on the flyer.

Bob Gergerich Fall Clinics

By Ron Michalak 08/10/2018, 8:00am EDT

Bob Gergerich will be hosting a series of skill sessions to help players hone their skills in specific areas as outlined below.

The individual clinics are only for Squirt - Bantam aged players, will be limited to 24 skaters to increase puck touches and provide more detailed and focused instruction.

The cost is $25 per session, and you can sign up for as many as you would like all in one registration, or one at a time at your leisure, but we would caution against that because the space could fill up fast.

As an added bonus, if you sign up for all 7 clinics, you will receive one clinic for free.

All sessions will be conducted from 8:00pm - 8:50pm at the Spencer Family YMCA in Bethel Park, and are open to players from all organizations.

  • August 31st - Stride Correction & Development (with and w/o pucks)
  • September 21st - Quick Feet & Acceleration
  • October 5th - Stick Handling & Moves
  • November 2nd - Battling & Puck Protection
  • November 30th - Advanced Stick Handling & Moves
  • December 7th - Shooting & Goal Scoring
  • December 21st - Edges, Crossovers, & Linear Crossovers (with and w/o pucks)
