Here are just a few reasons to play Hockey:
More than a Game
Hockey develops skills on the ice that build a foundation for a lifetime. In addition to athletic prowess, hockey promotes confidence, pride, focus and responsibility. With an emphasis on fun, hockey is a game to be played and enjoyed for life.
Starting with the bonds created in the locker room to the relationships formed on ice, hockey creates life-long friendships. This camaraderie shared on and off the ice encourages teamwork and the natural development of leadership skills.
Set Up for Success
From learning to balance school, responsibilities at home, time at the rink and playing with friends, hockey encourages kids to learn time management skills that will later serve them in all facets of life. Hockey’s unique source of physical fitness promotes healthy living.
Hockey is Fun
The thrill of carrying the puck up the ice on a breakaway, the exhilaration of scoring your first goal or making that amazing save is possible due to the encouraging environment hockey provides to try new things and grow as a hockey player and person.

SHAHA is pleased to announce that Paul Taibi will be Head Coach for the U13 Bantams (birth year 2006) next season. Our 2006 team is currently among the highest ranked teams in the United States at Tier II after playing a very competitive AAA/AA schedule. Coach Taibi will build on this standard of excellence and will be seeking top quality players for open slots at all positions.
Coach Taibi (USA Hockey Certified - Level 5 (Masters)) is among the most successful coaches of amateur hockey players in Western Pennsylvania. He has coached numerous players to the highest levels of hockey, including current NHL/AHL defenseman Matt Bartkowski, former ECHL forward Tyler Murovich, and several NCAA Division I and III players. Coach Taibi spent three seasons as Head Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite AAA at both the midget and bantam levels. He holds the distinction of advancing the Pens Elite U15 Midgets to third place in the 2017 Tier 1 USA National Championship. Coach Taibi also served as head coach of Mt. Lebanon High School (2001-2008), leading them to a Pennsylvania AAA State Championship and two Penguin Cups. He has an impressive overall high school record of 132-17-9. Most recently, Coach Taibi has been head coach at the collegiate level with the club hockey teams at Robert Morris University and West Virginia University. At this level, he coached his team to the ACHA Division 1 National Tournament and received CHMA Coach of the Year honors. See below for Coach Taibi's resume.
Mike Schall will be assisting Coach Taibi by providing weekly skill and development practices. Coach Schall, a former junior hockey player in Canada and NCAA defensemen, has been coaching for the past 16 seasons. His experience includes several seasons at Pittsburgh Penguins Elite AAA where he served as head coach at the PeeWee through Midget levels. He was also selected as head coach of Team Pennsylvania and took that team to the prestigious Brick Hockey Tournament in Alberta, Canada. Coach Schall has worked extensively with high school players having served as Head Coach at Seneca Valley for four seasons and in his current position as assistant coach with Bethel Park Varsity Hockey. Off the ice, Coach Schall is an Elementary Health and Physical Education teacher in the Bethel Park School District.
The U13 team will also utilize several staff coaches at SHAHA. These coaches specialize in skills, power-skating, and goalie coaching. Currently, this group includes former NHL goalie JS Aubin.
The U13 team will play an independent schedule of approximately 40-50 games with 18-20 home ice slots available. It is expected that this team will compete at the Tier I/AAA level, seeking placement in only the most competitive tournaments and showcases. The U13 Bantams will receive three on-ice practices per week for the entire season, including a full ice session and dry land training. Tryouts will be held this coming April with more specific tryout and season fee information to be posted on this website in the coming weeks.
